Wrinkle Fillers

Radiesse and Juvederm Wrinkle Fillers

Impressions of beauty change with time – as do our faces as we age. With Juvederm® and Radiesse® wrinkle fillers, you can have a natural beauty lift by using your bodies own natural substance!

Juvederm® is a crystal-clear,non-animal, biodegradable gel based on natural compounds, called hyaluronic acids. These gels are injected into the skin in tiny amounts in facial wrinkles such as the naso-labial folds or under the eye with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural skin enhancement..
Since 1996, more than a million people have been successfully treated in more than 60 countries worldwide. Juvederm® filler (Allergan®) was FDA approved in Jan.2007 and provides instantaneous filling effect. Juvederm Ultra Plus® is a variant or Juvederm Ultra® and is comprised of a thicker particulate matter that is commonly used in deeper facial folds. It has been FDA- approved as of may 2007 and shows very promising results with longer duration of fill.
Radiesse® (Mertz Aesthetics) is a semi-permanent wrinkle filler (>1 year) comprised of a substance called calcium hydroxyapetite. It is a thicker particulate gel that is commonly injected in wrinkles around mouth (nasolabial & oral commissure), and mid face or cheek regions. It is a superior filler for deeper folds that require more sustained filling. Longevity of product is biggest advantage with results lasting up to 15 months!

Chemical Peels

VI and REVE’ Chemical Peeling

Chemical peeling is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin. For this treatment, a  natural chemical solution is applied to the skin which causes it to separate and eventually peel off. The new regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than old skin, in addition to being more even in color.
Chemical peels have the ability to create a thicker epidermis, and production of increased amounts of collagen and elastin in skin. The end result of these changes is increased volume of tissue, which tightens the superficial skin layers  leading to improvement of wrinkles.

Botox

Botox Cosmetic for facial wrinkles.

You’ve probably heard a lot about BOTOX® Cosmetic. It’s been in the news, in fashion, health, and beauty magazines, and on TV. Your friends may even be talking about how it works.

Smooth moderate to severe frown lines between your brows and around your eyes with no surgery and no recovery time. An improvement can be seen within days, lasting for up to 4 months.

With a simple injection, no down time (patients may return to normal activities immediately), no healing time and no scars, what are often called “frown” lines can be eliminated. Very small doses of the toxin can be injected directly into the specific muscles which cause the unwanted lines of expression. This causes only those muscles to become paralyzed. Following the injection, it can take from three to fourteen days to achieve maximal results. Softening of facial lines lasts from two to five months. To maintain the effect, injections should be repeated every four months.

Botox Q&A

What exactly is BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical, physician- administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within days, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary.

How does BOTOX Cosmetic work?

Those moderate to severe lines between your brows and around your eyes form over time as the result of muscle activity. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.

When will I see results from a BOTOX Cosmetic treatment?

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines and crows feet. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women rated the improvement in their appearance as moderate to better 1 month after treatment. Results may vary.

How long does BOTOX Cosmetic last?

Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the lines gradually will look like they did before treatment. Over time, those who are consistent with their treatments, may require treatments less frequently.

Who should administer BOTOX Cosmetic?

Any authorized healthcare professional can administer BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Who should not use BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert- Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Will I experience any side effects?

The most common side effects include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. Less frequently occurring (<3%) adverse reactions include pain in the face, erythema (redness) at the injection site, and muscle weakness. These events are thought to be associated with the injection and occurred within the first week.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes frown lines and crows feet is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

Is BOTOX Cosmetic affordable?

When considering your facial aesthetic options, BOTOX® Cosmetic is quite affordable. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s 2003 survey, BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the least expensive facial aesthetic procedures in the United States. Like other appearance-related investments, such as hair coloring and cuts, teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations.

Is treatment with BOTOX Cosmetic painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, your physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Many people return directly to work or normal activity following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.

What will happen to the frown lines between my brows if I choose not to continue treatments?

If you do not continue treatments, these moderate to severe lines will gradually look like they did before treatment.

IPL Photo Rejuvenation Q&A

What is an IPL treatment like?

Each IPL treatment takes about 30-45 minutes. Patients tolerate the non- invasive procedure very well. Those with more sensitive skin may use a topical anesthetic, applied 30 minutes before the procedure. Before treatment, a cold gel is applied to the area treated, and you may be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. During the treatment, you will hear a beep each time the machine is used. Afterwards, for a few minutes or hours, the skin may be flushed and appear irritated. Brown spots will actually be slightly darker at first. These initial effects usually fade in within hours, but can occasionally last for a few days.

Why is IPL so exciting?

Medical lasers deliver a specific band of light that will generally treat one skin problem. Affinity MedSpa’s Quantum SR IPL Photorejuvenation Systems by Lumenis Inc., deliver a broad band of pulsed light, a sensible to laser surgery and chemical peels. Following a treatment, most patients can go back to their usual activities and can immediately apply make-up. IPL is a safe, non-invasive solution that can be customized to your individual needs and will provide superior cosmetic results and high levels of satisfaction. After only the first treatment, skin feels smoother and appears more evenly toned.

What are the expected results?

Following IPL there is a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and acne- like breakouts. Treated skin will become smoother with a reduction in fine wrinkles and pore size as well as fading of sun spots or uneven pigmentation. In time, the results are smoother, healthier, younger-appearing skin.

How many and how often?

A series of at least 5 treatments is needed to obtain optimal results. Some patients may benefit from more treatments while others less depending on the severity of the condition treated. Treatments are given 3-4 weeks apart. Chemical peeling may also be used in conjunction with IPL for even better skin clarity and tightening.  Based on the high level of demand for this procedure, many offices are offering inappropriate substitutes. Don’t be fooled by other practices that give only a single “pass” with the machine or only treat “part” of the face with a machine that is not a true IPL machine.

How much does it cost?

Costs are per treatment and in packages of 5 (less expensive). Compared to other aesthetic surgeries, its is affordable and competitively priced. It is more expensive than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels, and less expensive than laser resurfacing or a facelift. It is not typically covered by health insurance.

Am I a candidate?

If your appearance is marred by facial redness (rosacia), pigmentation, or signs of aging, or if you would like to maintain a youthful, healthy appearance, then IPL is for you. Contact our office for a consultation to see if we can help you with the latest technology available today!

Is it safe?

IPL is non-invasive and very safe. You can usually return directly to work and apply makeup immediately. You can resume all your activities (except sun exposure) immediately. Very rarely, temporary mild bruising or blistering may occur in the treated areas, which will resolve in a few days.

Spider Veins

Spider Vein Treatments

Vein problems begin when the vein valves that prevent blood from flowing in the wrong direction (reflux) become weak or malfunction. This causes blood to pool in the veins, forcing them to protrude from the skin becoming rope-like and varicose . This increased venous pressure can lead to further failure of other vein valves and to the development of varicose veins.

Spider veins are small red, blue or purple veins that commonly appear on the surface of the thighs, calves and ankles. It’s estimated that at least one third of the adult female population is troubled with this common problem. In addition to being unsightly and even embarrassing, varicose veins and spider veins can cause varying degrees of discomfort, including swelling, throbbing, heaviness, aches and leg cramps.

Affinity Wellness 4 life utilizes Quantum IPL, Nd:Yag laser and sclerotherapy techniques utilizing normal saline solutions to treat most types of vein problems, typically in one to four treatment sessions.

Sclerotherapy Before and After Photos

Spider Vein QnA

How does high-tech laser/light technology compare to traditional sclerotherapy?

The combined light sources of IPL and Nd:YAG offer important benefits over injection therapy. The combination of IPL and Nd:YAG therapy allows treatment of injectable leg veins as well as matting and small spider vessels that are often too small to inject. In addition laser / light therapy is fast, less painful; minimally invasive without needles; and typically does not require compression wrapping.

What are the advantages of Lumenis’ Nd:YAG technology?

Lumenis’ proprietary Nd:YAG technology provides multiple synchronized pulsing to selectively heat blood vessels of different sizes and depths. The wavelength of light and pulsing characteristics of the system allow the energy to be virtually invisible to the epidermal melanin, thus protecting the skin and allowing treatment of all skin types and tanned skin.
Normally only a few pulses of the laser are required to achieve complete closure and sealing of the vessels. The sapphire cooled Nd:YAG treatment head, available in the IPL Quantum DL and Lumenis One systems (and as an upgrade to other systems), increases patient comfort. Multiple spot sizes available on the Lumenis One “Multispot” Nd:YAG head allows accurate targeting of vessels anywhere on the body including larger telangiectasia on the face.
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding spider vein treatment and if Luminis YAG technology may be right for you!
